The 2025 Rattlesnake Scramble was a success! On Friday we had racers rolling in to camp. Our race crew put in efforts for the last little bit of marking to finish on Friday after/evening. It rained off and on all Friday evening making for some amazing hero dirt conditions going into Saturday.
On Saturday morning we sent a crew out to check course and make sure marking looked good along with making sure all dangers were marked well since the course was very fast. The clouds had been lingering but that wasn't stopping people from signing up and getting bikes tech inspected for pre ride. The forecast called for rain on Saturday mid day and man did it rain, it rained hard for about 45 minutes causing the arroyos to start running even a little bit of flooding in the pits. Once the rain moved past us we waited for the arroyo to dry up to go access our track due to most of it being in arroyos. Due to heavy rain and our course marking floating away we decided to cancel pre ride. The racers didn't mind mostly because we had sunny skies for Sunday during the race so hero dirt it was for race day. We sent race crews back out to re mark everything that had got swept away during the heavy rains along with check for any new dangers. The crew put in hard work and got the course back up to par! Thank you to all who helped!
Sunday morning come race day we had cool weather, hero dirt conditions, and a light fog covering some of the track, man oh man if that doesn't get you excited for racing what does?! 8 am we hosted prayer and rider meeting and then the racers got ready to race. The smell of wet dirt, race gas, and two strokes started to fill the air. The start time was ticking down and the adrenaline was starting to pump! BAMMM!! Before you know it, it's 9 am, green flag waving and off to races we go! 1 minute intervals between classes, the ground shaking as they battle for the hole shot going into the 1st corner! The Pros were wicked fast on the first lap coming through the transponder a near 25 minutes after start! The battle for the lead was tight! Meanwhile in the open c class a battle for second place has formed coming down the wash as Erin Benavidez leads and Killian Webb close behind coming into the last corner before the transponder, Killian tries to make a move and before we know it both riders are down hard right before the finish with the checkered flag waving for them to finish their race. As they get up and check on each other it's a race just to get the bike up and finish at the end of the day it was Killian Webb up first and Erin Benavidez close behind. In the Open B class the race was fairly clean and everyone was finishing strong. Coming back to the Pros it was Max Preslar coming in 1st on the 2nd lap with Justin Herman seconds behind, Jose Moya right behind in 3rd and Kody Willis in a very close 4th. As we come around to the 6th lap Kody Willis is coming through IN THE LEAD, he made hard charge to earn that first place spot. He's thinking he has the win in the bag and is going to get the checkered, but the white flag comes out and he makes an audible sigh coming through the transponder, not long after Justin Herman makes his way through in second. Newcomer Corey Ahl comes around now in 3rd place and the rest of the pro class trickles in. Before we know it we hear a bike roaring down the arroyo and we see it's Kody Willis charging in for the win on the 7th lap! The crowd starts to cheer as he hits the last set of whoops, but as he hits the whoops the back end starts to swap. The crowd's cheers turn to Woah's! The bike starts to swap left, then right, then back to left, it looks like he's going to save it and BAM before we know he is helicoptering through the air flying about 20 feet and he hits the ground. Lands in a cactus hard, some of us run over to him as he's 30 feet from finishing, we rush him onto the bike cheering him on to finish! He gets going again and finishes for the WIN! WOW what an eventful finish for Kody, we get EMS over to him as he says his wrist is hurting and get him checked out. Justin Herman rolls into the finish about 2 minutes later. After speaking with him he stated he had a fuel pump issue and couldn't give the bike more than a quarter throttle on that last lap. Corey Ahl finishes out the podium in third about 5 minutes after Herman. The Rattlesnake Scramble has come to an end and overall it was a success! We can't thank you all enough for the support!
